FAQ

Welcome to our FAQ page. Here you will find answers to the most commonly asked questions about our virtual clinical counseling services at Inner Tides Counselling. If you have any additional questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here to support you on your journey towards well-being and mental health.

  • I’m nervous about starting therapy. What should I expect in the first session?
That’s completely normal! Our first session will be a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about your goals for therapy, what’s been bringing you stress or challenges, and any past experiences with counselling. There’s no pressure to share everything at once—this is your space, and we’ll go at your pace.
  • What do I need for an online session?
A private, quiet space where you feel comfortable, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or phone). Headphones can also help with privacy and sound quality.
  • Can I book a session for someone else?
If you’re looking to support a loved one, you’re welcome to share my contact information with them. Therapy is most effective when someone chooses it for themselves, so it’s important they feel ready to reach out.
  • How much does a session cost?
My standard session fee is $155.00, with sessions lasting 55 minutes. I also offer sliding scale rates based on financial need—please reach out if cost is a concern.
  • Do you accept insurance?
I do not bill insurance directly, but many extended health benefit plans cover therapy with a Registered Social Worker (RSW). I provide detailed receipts for reimbursement—please check with your provider to confirm your coverage.
  • Do you offer sliding scale rates?
Yes, I have a limited number of sliding scale spots available. If cost is a barrier, let’s discuss what might work for you.
  • How do I book an appointment?
You can book a session through my online scheduling system [insert link] or contact me via email at alex@innertidescounselling.ca for availability.
  • Do you offer in-person or online therapy?
Both! I currently offer online therapy for clients in British Columbia. This allows you to access support from the comfort of your own space. I also offer in-person sessions at my Kamloops office, located at #105-1150 Hillside Drive.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed appointments will be subjected to the full session rate.
  • What is therapy, and how can it help me?
Therapy is a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It can help you process past traumas, develop coping strategies, and navigate life’s challenges with more clarity and confidence. My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered, meaning we’ll work together at your pace to support your healing and growth.
  • What types of therapy do you offer?
I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Each approach can be tailored to your unique needs to help you manage anxiety, trauma, stress, and other concerns.
  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can be beneficial for anyone looking for support, whether you're struggling with specific challenges or simply wanting to gain more self-awareness. If you’re unsure, I offer a free 15-minute consultation where we can discuss your needs and see if we’re a good fit.
  • How often should I come to therapy?
The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients prefer weekly sessions, while others come biweekly or monthly. We’ll discuss what works best for you.
